Stayed on Freedom: Contemplating Black Histories, Black Presence, and Black Futures from the Perspective of Buddhism

The core aspiration and actualization of Buddhist practice is absolute freedom. Freedom in Buddhism does not depend on external circumstances as it transcends all circumstances so that we may notice and act upon the truth that we are free within ourselves.

Black people throughout the Diaspora have manifested this conviction, knowing ourselves to be in and of freedom regardless of the restrictions placed on us.

The interactive dialogue with Dr. Kamilah Majied will highlight the profound relevance of Buddhism to Black liberation. Dr. Majied invites us to explore the wisdom of Buddhism as it relates to Black histories, Black presence, and Black futures.
